Summary of Position

The Atlanta Music Project seeks a dynamic, motivated and experienced individual to take on the new position of Director of Development. The Director of Development will be responsible for designing, directing and leading the execution and strategy of the organization’s development operations. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering measurable results in the areas of annual fundraising and major gift development.

This position reports to the Executive Director. The Director of Development will oversee the Grants Manager and work collaboratively with the Marketing and Operations Manager and Operations Assistant. The Director of Development will work with and interact regularly with the AMP Board of Directors, major donors, institutional funders and volunteers.

About the Atlanta Music Project

Founded in 2010, the Atlanta Music Project provides intensive, tuition-free music education for underserved youth right in their neighborhood. AMP’s existence is a direct result of the 2009 TED Prize, which was awarded to Dr. Jose Antonio Abreu, founder of Venezuela’s El Sistema. AMP’s co-founders were members of the Sistema Fellows Program at the New England Conservatory in Boston.

The 2017-2018 school year will be AMP’s eighth year of programming, during which 300 students at five program sites will be served. AMP’s annual operating budget will approach $900,000. In addition, a modest capital campaign will be launched to secure funding for AMP’s first ever headquarters. AMP’s Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2018 to 2020 is currently in development.

AMP’s funders include Carnegie Hall, Bank of America, the Chick-fil-A Foundation, the Coca-Cola Foundation, MailChimp, The Zeist Foundation, the Abraham J. & Phyllis Katz Foundation, the Harland Charitable Foundation, the Arthur Blank Foundation, Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, Fulton County Arts Council, Georgia Council for the Arts, Georgia Music Foundation and the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.

AMP’s partners and collaborators include the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation, The Kindezi Schools, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Woodruff Arts Center, The Westin Peachtree Downtown, Sylvan Hills Middle School, Clayton Statement University and Carnegie Hall.

AMP provides all its students with an instrument, a teaching artist, classes and numerous public performance opportunities. AMP does not hold entrance auditions – the only requirement is a commitment to attending all classes.

AMP’s programs include: the AMP Orchestra; AMPlify, the choral program of the Atlanta Music Project; the AMP Academy, which provides advanced musical training to AMP’s most talented and dedicated students; and the AMP Summer Series, a music festival and school.

In September of 2017, AMP students will perform the national anthem at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at an Atlanta United FC game. AMP’s young artists have performed at Atlanta’s most prestigious venues, including the Woodruff Arts Center, Spivey Hall, Center Stage, and the Rialto Center for the Arts. In 2015 Clayton State University established the Atlanta Music Project Endowed Scholarships, providing college scholarship funds for AMP students.

In both 2016 and 2017 the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities named AMP one of the top 50 youth programs in the nation. AMP is the recipient of the prestigious 2016 Bank of America Neighborhood Builders award, which will support the development of AMP’s first ever headquarters space in Southwest Atlanta. What Do You Speak Julie Dexter?

If you are a true "SPEAKER" that follows When We Speak TV, you will know that Julie Dexter was the first live music concert I attended when I moved to Atlanta in 2008.  Back then, I wasn't really familiar with the Atlanta music scene, nor any of the indie artists in the city but I was invited by my business partner, Chet, so I went......and to make a long story short, I have been a Julie Dexter fan ever since.

I always make the reference that Julie Dexter is my Beyonce.  What I mean by that is, although I would love to meet Beyonce, I get just as anxious when I see Julie Dexter, as I would if I saw Beyonce!  I really admire Julie because not only is she a great vocalist but she is also a supporter of When We Speak TV!  You may remember that a few years back, I sat down and spoke with her at the release of her album, New Again.

Since then, she and I have definitely seen one another on several occasions at musical events like the Atlanta Jazz Festival....and of course this year, she performed at the Jazz In The Alley Concert Series, which When We Speak TV is an official partner!

I think it goes without saying that Julie Dexter is one of our favorite people, that's why I am so excited to have the opportunity to speak with Julie Dexter for a segment of  What Do YOU Speak?
Definitely take a moment to watch it ......then you will see exactly why I titled this post, The Best Thing A Woman Can Be Is A Singer and you will also find out who spoke these life changing words to Julie.  I hope you enjoy it!

If you haven't done so, please take a moment to subscribe to the new When We Speak TV YouTube page, we would greatly appreciate your support!
