Since 2006, the Coathangers have slugged it out on stages in Atlanta and around the world, forever sharpening their bold but fun-loving garage-punk anthems. The group’s fifth album, Nosebleed Weekend (out April 15 via Suicide Squeeze), steps up singer and guitarist Julia Kugel, drummer Stephanie Luke, and bass player Meredith Franco's songwriting, production, and in-studio performances while keeping a firm grasp on the band's primal spirit. Crafting the powerful guitar tones, drum sounds, and lyrical tirades that drive songs such as "Perfume," "Squeeki Tiki," and the album's title track was a grueling process.
For this podcast, the group took a few minutes out from preparing for the coming Nosebleed blitz to talk about their history in Atlanta, rising above criticism, and working with producer Nic Joidon to create the Coathangers' most accomplished album to date.
