Scenes from Faust and Laurie Anderson performing 'Outside the Dream Syndicate'


On Fri., April 1, Jean-Hervé Péron and Zappi Diermaier of legendary German band Faust, were joined by Laurie Anderson and members of Tony Conrad's Amplified Drone String musicians, for a performance of Outside the Dream Syndicate.

Anderson joined the group, standing in for Tony Conrad, who could not be there to due to health complications related to prostate cancer. Anderson had a ghostly presence on stage, drifting in and out of the shadows, often times disappearing entirely amid the grinding din of steel guitar strings, two double cellos, violin, electric bass, drums, and the stark gingham pattern projections on the wall behind the group.

Each performer locked into the rhythms and motions of this ecstatic middle ground where krautrock meets minimalism.…
