Richard Barone brings 'Sorrows & Promises' to town


As the Bongos guitarist and frontman, Richard Barone helped found what came to be known as the Hoboken Sound — a brand of early-mid '80s melodic/classic alternative rock songwriting typified by acts such as the Cucumbers, the Chris Stamey Group, the Feelies, and yes, the Bongos.

Barone has since gone on to release a string of acclaimed solo records including such acclaimed albums as 1987's Cool Blue Halo and 2010's Glow. His approach ranges from jangly new wave to shimmering chamber pop. This show will cover material from throughout his career including the folk sounds from his upcoming album Sorrows & Promises: Greenwich Village in the 1960s, with songs from the origins of the singer/songwriter movement that started in that neighborhood.…
