You may have heard by now that the courts awarded over $7.4 million to Marvin Gaye’s family for their claims Pharell and Robin Thicke stole “Blurred Lines” from Marvin’s hit “Got To Give It Up,” and their win is prompting other producers to speak up about their stolen works.
There’s no question that music from the past ‘inspires’ other songs, and Jermaine Dupri should know… being that the 42-year-old has co-written and/or co-produced No. 1 hits such as Carey’s “We Belong Together” and “Always Be My Baby,” Usher’s “Burn” and Monica’s “The First Night.”
That being said, the legendary producer recently shared his take on the ‘Blurred Lines’ lawsuit and in doing so… managed to blast Ciara’s ‘I Bet’ as a rip off of a song he co produced, Usher’s ‘You got it Bad’ !
