Tobias Jesso Jr. is waterproof

Sad rock singer-songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. follows in the meticulous, tear-filled footsteps of other eloquent blue babes like Harry Nilsson, Jeff Buckley, even Elliott Smith. Jesso Jr. manipulates tender keystrokes and earth-shattering lyrics in a way best described as sexy.…

Deerhunter: Fading Frontier

‘Fading Frontier’ dresses down Deerhunter’s legacy of fiery avant-garde rock by Chad Radford Fading Frontier is the first Deerhunter album to dress down the group’s legacy of fiery and phantasmagoric avant-garde rock. “Living My Life,” “Breaker,” and “Take Care,” embrace a pop aesthetic that is the antithesis of the bold spirit that established Deerhunter as one of the most intriguing experimental rock acts of the millennium.…

Goes best with incense and salt candles by Gavin Godfrey From the onset of Raury’s proper debut, All We Need, it’s clear the 19-year-old from Stone Mountain has no intention of veering out of his lane as music’s self-proclaimed “Indigo Child.” When he sings, “All we need is love,” in the album’s opener, it’s clear that Raury was born amid syrup-induced trap tales. But All We Need goes best with incense and salt candles rather than blunts and double cups of lean.…

Kylesa still burns bright

Savannah metal vets refuse to go through the motions. by Bobby Moore Savannah's long-standing sludge-metal mammoth Kylesa has never trudged around the same sonic mire for too long. With the group's latest album, Exhausting Fire (released Oct. 2 via Season of Mist), singer and guitarist duo Phillip Cope and Laura Pleasants have culled their record collections to find inspiration and expand their group's ever-evolving sound.…
