Original Song Lyrics by AMP Summer Series Student

The following original song lyrics were composed by Brooklyn Williams during the AMP Summer Series Choir Composition & Improvisation class taught by Keeyen Martin.

Was It My Personality?
by Brooklyn Williams

Verse 1
Oh why am I here right now?
I don’t mind if you can’t see it through
You won’t be my special who
You’ve got nothing to say
To make me feel that way
I’m not your doormat
I’m not your pet
If you don’t trust me right,
I won’t even put up a fight
Is it me, or is it my personality

Chorus
Was it my personality
That made you get away from me?
Was it my clothes and my hair?
I really don’t care
I’m just happy I’m not with you anymore

Verse 2
I thought that I loved you,
But that’s obviously not true
I guess I just wasn’t the one for you
But that’s ok,
Because it’s the cool I play
I might as well leave you alone,
Where I sit at home
And think about what you said to me
Was it my personality?

(Chorus)

Verse 3
I’m sick of you playin’ around and
saying you don’t like my style
I’ll just say goodbye,
‘Cause what you said didn’t make me cry
Just what you told me stuck in my mind for centuries
Oh, was it my personality?

(Chorus)

Bridge
Why did you say those things to me?
You thought I earned
Oh, baby I didn’t even stand to bear
I appreciate myself and that’s all I need
Oh, was it my personality?

(Chorus)

Meat Cleaver by Bodega Brovas feat. Jean Grae

 from: massappeal.com

LGA (Loaded Guns and Alcohol) cover artHailing from various major US cities, The Bodega Brovas consists of emcees Travii the 7th (Chicago), Keynote (Dallas), and Headkrack (Bronx). Considering they come from such distinct hip hop hotbeds, it’s impressive this trio gel so well. On the brand spanking new “Meat Cleaver” they spin tales of violent revenge, wild car chases, and armed robbery. And when Jean shows up for a guest verse, the mic heavyweight suggests she may be a cyborg killing machine. But who wouldn’t be seeing red? The dense, hammering drums, coupled with police sirens and a simple guitar loop make for an aggressive backdrop. Steamable below, this razor sharp cut is off their upcoming official debut album, L.G.A. (Loaded Guns & Alcohol), which drops digitally and on CD and vinyl on July 15th, 2016. You can pre-order the album here.

Cave Bat reflects on the lessons learned from the group's first 20 releases

Cave Bat began as a low-key duo, featuring roommates Nathan Brown (Hopi Torvald, Tree Creature) and Kris Nelson both manning mini arsenal of synthesizers, percussive objects, a flute, xylophone, accordion, and more. Over the last two years the group has quietly picked up a third member, Phi (electronics, percussion), while adopting an open-door policy regarding guest musicians and collaborators.…

Catching up with the Brand New Heavies

The Brand New Heavies originally formed in 1986, but the British-born outfit is best known for its 1990s heyday, when vocalist N’Dea Davenport joined the crew. Throughout that decade, the Heavies rose to fame as the torchbearers of '70s-era funk and soul, and helped give birth to the musical movement known as acid jazz by rocking feel-good hits such as “Dream Come True,” "Stay This Way" and “Never Stop.” The group's popularity, along with its roster, fluctuated over time, but the band has essentially never stopped (pun intended) working.…
