FRIDAY

Sam Smith

It’s already a promising year for the young British singer. He has six Grammy nominations, and is undertaking a mostly sold-out theater and small arena tour of the U.S., Australia and Europe through June. All that, and the humble 22-year-old is still only working his debut album, last year’s “In the Lonely Hour,” which spawned the aching pop-gospel hit “Stay with Me.” Smith’s return to Atlanta has been swift — he sold out the Tabernacle in October with a show long on authenticity. It will be interesting to see how he handles the roomier stage at the Fox.

With George Ezra. 7 p.m. Jan. 9. Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St. N.E., Atlanta. 1-855-285-8499, foxtheatre.org.

SUNDAY

Seether and Papa Roach

This double dose of hard rockers will be on the road together through early February as Papa Roach celebrates the 15th anniversary of its “Infest” debut and Seether promotes its sixth album, “Isolate and Medicate,” which arrived in July. Papa Roach also is unveiling its eighth studio album, “F.E.A.R.Y.,” Jan. 27, while Seether is back on radio with “Same Damn Life” and “Words As Weapons.”

With Kyng and Islander. 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11. $35.50. The Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St., Atlanta. 1-800-745-3000, livenation.com.

Johnette Napolitano

Concrete Blonde bulldozed its way through the late ’80s and early ’90s and reached a commercial peak with 1990’s “Bloodletting” album, featuring the modern rock chart hit, “Joey.” Napolitano’s distinctive rasp of a voice gave the group its signature sound and the singer has maintained an active solo career as Concrete Blonde has gone on and off hiatus. You’ll hear it fully realized on this tour, which features Napolitano and her acoustic guitar.

7 p.m. Jan. 11. $28 (advance general admission), $33 (day-of-show general admission) and $140 (reserved table for four). Eddie’s Attic, 515-B N. McDonough St., Decatur. 1-877-725-8849, ticketalternative.com.

Glen Phillips

The Toad the Wet Sprocket frontman visited Atlanta last summer with his ’90s-era alt-pop band (they opened for Counting Crows at Chastain Park Amphitheatre), looking youthful and sounding as mellifluous as he did during Toad’s heyday. Phillips, who has released several solo albums and played with artists ranging from Sean and Sara Watkins to Garrison Starr, is on the road for a month on a solo acoustic tour.

With Natalia Zukeman. 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11. $20-$22. Red Clay Music Foundry, 3116 Main St., Duluth. 404-478-2749, http://ift.tt/1DoAGc9.
